Paralegal
Fletcher & Sippel is a nationally known and expanding transportation law firm consisting of 25+ attorneys across multiple states with areas of practice including litigation, employment and labor, transactional, and regulatory compliance work. Our office is seeking an experienced, self-sufficient paralegal for the downtown Chicago office. This position will mainly assist the litigation team but may be called upon to assist attorneys in other practice groups as needed.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Understanding of pleadings, discovery, and pre-trial and trial procedures for civil cases
Experience with Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook, Power Point, Westlaw, PACER, and electronic file sharing sites
Ability to exercise judgement in setting and prioritizing tasks with various deadlines
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills Strong communication skills for meetings with attorneys, clients, and courtroom personnel
Ability to work both independently, and as a team Creative skills for preparation of charts, graphs, and diagrams
Ability to keep track and bill time and adhere to billing requirement guidelines
Knowledge of E-filing procedures preferred but not required
Responsibilities:
Draft discovery requests and responses and prepare relevant document productions
Draft and track third party records requests and subpoenas for medical, employment, financial, and other relevant records across multiple jurisdictions
Research and obtain police reports, investigation files, and similar records from emergency response agencies
Review and analyze medical records and prepare medical summaries
Provide deposition assistance including contacting witnesses, preparing deposition binders, review and abstracting transcripts, and appear as needed to assist with sharing of exhibits during Zoom depositions
Assist attorneys with drafting and cite checking briefs and oversee support staff in the e-filing process
Work with experts including exchange of case files and coordinating deadlines
Use of client document share file systems to facilitate exchange of materials
Transcribe recorded interviews, witness statements, and radio recordings
Provide trial assistance including preparation of exhibits, exhibit lists, witness lists, motions, and demonstratives and appear at trial to assist attorneys with case related tasks and courtroom technology Conduct background research on individuals and companies
Research land and property records from county agencies and file and procure records
Organize and maintain electronic and physical files
Credentials and Experience Required:
Bachelor's Degree
Paralegal certificate preferred but not required with relevant experience
Minimum of seven (7) years' experience as a paralegal, preferably in litigation
Trial appearance and assistance experience
Experience with EEOC claims and employment and labor matters preferred but not required
The position also includes providing assistance to other paralegals and attorneys in the firm as needed as well as working with support staff. Regional travel may be required for trials. Flexibility in occasional overtime is preferred.

After completion of orientation, the role currently works three (3) days in office and two (2) days work from home. Additional in-office days subject to business needs. Salary commensurate with experience.
