Legal Assistant


Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Chicago office! The Legal Assistant will provide administrative support to Attorneys in the Transactional and Privacy & Cybersecurity practice areas.

Responsibilities
• Receiving and reviewing incoming documents; scheduling and calendaring dates
• Transcribe, type, proofread and finalize legal documents, correspondence, memos, charts, billings and reports from dictation, handwritten or existing documents, as directed by assigned legal staff
• Opening new clients and matters utilizing NBI
• Communicating with clients as to billing issues and status of matters
• Create reports using Excel
• Assist with preparing presentations
• Assist with trial preparation as needed
• Prepare letters/emails to client
• Billable time entry in billing software
• Travel, meeting, conference call and video call arrangements
• Prepare and submit attorney expense reports
• Experience working with Secretaries of State and IRS for basic entity formation, and annual report and franchise tax tracking
• Experience with DocuSign
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong organizational and process skills, focused attention on detail, and ability to spot inaccuracies and inconsistencies in documents
• Advanced Excel and Word skills
• Excellent computer skills required
• Technology literacy and willingness to learn new practice technologies and software
• Ability to multi-task, set priorities and exhibit excellent follow-up
• Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure
• Ability to interact with internal customers
• Understanding of confidentiality requirements
• Good judgment and keen attention to detail are extremely important.

Education and Experience Requirements:
• 5 years of experience in a legal environment, prefer 2 years of Transactional experience
• HS/HSED required
